Glossary
Upon admission to UCI, every
undergraduate student is assigned to the school or program that offers
the student’s selected major, or to the Division of Undergraduate
Education if the student’s major is undecided/undeclared. Before
enrolling in classes, students should talk to an academic counselor to
develop an academic plan for course enrollment. The counselors are the students’
guides for help in selecting the right classes for their major.

Aldrich Park, named for UCI’s founding chancellor, Daniel G.
Aldrich Jr. is a lush circular 19 acre park in the heart of the campus. It features connecting footpaths, rolling hillocks and shady trees, and serves as a tranquil place to study or just enjoy the setting.
UCI’s official mascot selected in 1965 by student election and inspired by Johnny Hart’s comic strip, B.C. UCI’s anteater mascot is named Peter.

The e-newsletter for UCI parents and families published during the fall, winter and spring quarters. Each issue of AnteaterNews covers informative topics, services and events of interest to parents and families of UCI students.
Anteater Recreation Center. The facility is
located off of California Ave. Ammenities include an indoor track,
basketball, volleyball and racquetball courts, climbing wall, the
largest weight room on the UCI campus and more. The ARC also offers intramural sports and a
variety of physical fitness classes.
Associated Students of University of California, Irvine. The student government representation for the general student body.
The place to get all course books, supplies, and
UCI-branded paraphernalia. Located in the UCI Student Center between Ring Mall and Pereira Dr. next to Aldrich Hall.
The Central Cashier is located in 228 Aldrich
Hall and handles all fees, lab payments and tuition payments. Checks should
be made payable to UC Regents.
The Electronic Educational Environment (EEE)
offers a variety of tools to enhance learning and manage course
administration. Tools include course mailing lists, course Web sites,
online NoteBoards, class DropBoxes, a GradeBook and much more.
FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) is the basic financial aid application.
The UCI General Catalogue is the most important
book to successfully complete schooling at UCI. Published annually, it is the document of record containing the listing
of courses that is needed to graduate, including breadth (General Education) and major
courses (courses for the completion of a specific major). The General
Catalogue also contains course descriptions and overall policies of the university pertaining to students.
Your personal university photo identification card.
Allows access to sporting events, the ARC and dining halls. Can be encoded to use in the University Pass (U-Pass) program for free access to the Orange County Transportaion Authoriy’s (OCTA) extensive bus system.
KUCI, at 88.9FM and kuci.org, is UCI's very own FM radio station broadcasting underground music and talk since 1969.

The New University, known as NewU, is UCI's newspaper published every Monday morning during the academic year.
Used to inform parents and family of special events on campus, important
notices and AnteaterNews notifications. To be included on the list, one must subscribe and may unsubscribe at any time.
The main access road of the main campus which
services the Administration Building, UCI Student Center Parking
Structrure (SCPS), as well as Social Science Parking Structure. Named for William L. Pereira, Master Architect for the UC Irvine campus and the City of Irvine.
The name of UCI’s mascot, Peter the Anteater.
Placement tests are given in a variety of
subjects to place students in the most appropriate class. Students may
also “test out” of certain classes.
The University Registrar’s office handles all individual and course registration information.
Ring Mall, or the Ring as it's usually
called, is one of the defining features of the campus. It circles the
campus and connects many of the primary buildings around Aldrich Park.
The Ring is one mile in circumference. The inner ring refers to the
pathway around the inside edge of Aldrich Park.
The Schedule of Classes is an online listing of available
classes for the upcoming quarter including dates, times, and locations
to help students plan and register for the next academic quarter.
The Student Parent Orientation Program (SPOP),
and its cousins Mini-SPOP and Transfer Success, are the primary campus
orientation programs.
Student ID Number is an eight digit number that
identifies a student’s academic records.
The place to update student’s address, view transcript, grades and class enrollments.
UCInetID
The UCInetID is the individual identification for access to many UCI online services. SNAP, WebFiles, Webmail and NACS Mailbox Services, EEE, WebReg and numerous others require you to use your UCInetID and password to log in.

The Undergraduate Student Health Insurance
Program (USHIP) is health insurance coverage provided to all students
at the undergraduate level. More information and opt-out information
can be found at the Student Health Center website. GSHIP is the Graduate
Students Health Insurance Program.
Students enroll in classes through WebReg. Students
select their desired classes online utilizing the Schedule of Classes (WebSOC), then log in to WebReg and enter the course code for each class.

ZOT Account Online (Student Billing System) allow
students to view the most recent monthly ZOTBill, current account
information, and pay their ZOTBill electronically online. Authorization
is needed for somone other than the student to make electronic payments
to the student's account.

ZOTBill
A student’s UCI billing statement,
produced monthly by Campus Billing Services for accounts with activity or balances
greater than zero. Tuition, lab and other fees (EXCEPT
housing and parking) will be posted to the ZOTBill. If fees are not
paid on time, the student will be dropped from all classes and a hold
may be placed on their records.

A student's one-stop-shop for almost all things online at UCI. View course schedules, tasks assigned by professors, important announcements and news, view dining menus, check financial aid information, connect to ZOT Account Online, and much more. Encourage your student to set ZotPortal as their homepage to stay up-to-date!
